PWS&D: Pakistan Floods

Posted on August 17, 2010 in category: Announcements

Monsoon rains and severe flooding have washed away tens of thousands of homes and killed as many as 1,500 people in Pakistan. In some of the worst flooding ever recorded in the region, thousands have lost livelihoods and are now homeless.

In the wake of widespread damage to agricultural lands, Presbyterian World Service & Development is working with Canadian Foodgrains Bank (CFGB) to provide over 25,000 people (3,000 families) with food packages for two months in the province of Balochistan, one of the worst affected areas. Each package contains rice, lentils, wheat flour, cooking oil, sugar, salt, tea and spices and provides a family with the basics needed to help overcome this disaster. PWS&D is leading this $750,000 project with the support of five other members of CFGB (Canadian Baptist Ministries, Emergency Relief & Development Overseas, Mennonite Central Committee Canada, Primate’s World Relief & Development Fund and World Relief Canada) who have all contributed financial resources to make this project a reality.

You can help. Your prayerful and financial support will help PWS&D meet its financial commitment to this program, ensuring desperately needed food reaches flood victims in Pakistan.
